Description
The Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa) is a South American tree in the family Lecythidaceae, and it is also the name of the tree’s commercially harvested edible seeds. Brazil nuts are notable for diverse content of micronutrients, especially a high amount of selenium, an essential mineral with antioxidant properties. Selenium plays an important role in reproduction, metabolism, and immune health.
Brazil nuts can be eaten raw as a snack, or chopped and added to muesli and other cereals.
